Vaginal Yeast Infection Causes in Women

By admin · Sunday, December 6th, 2009

When a woman suffers from a vaginal yeast infection it’s not because she has a choice, it’s because her normal bodily balance has gone out of synch, which in turn creates a hospitable environment in the vagina for the yeast producing bacteria to thrive.

The reason that a vaginal yeast infection is more common than any other type of yeast infection is due to the fact that the vagina is the perfect place for these little bacteria to grow.

In fact, even when the body is in balance there are yeast producing bacteria present in the vagina. The Candida Albicans bacteria are normally controlled and kept to a minimum by the immune system and the good bacteria.

When something goes wrong however and the balance of the vagina is thrown off track, the Candida Albicans bacteria can take over and create ever more masses of yeast, which in turn leads to a vaginal yeast infection.

Which is why, really, you should ideally try to keep your body in as balanced and healthy condition as possible. This means that to even think about giving your immune system a fighting chance to win out against a vaginal yeast infection, many women turn to such home remedies as yogurt to aid them.

The unsweetened yogurt uses the live lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria cultures to fight to off the Candida Albicans bacteria. In other words you’re sending in reinforcements to fight the good fight.

This is also why many women use the unsweetened yogurt directly instead of orally. In other words they smear their vagina with the stuff so that the good bacteria, the lactobacillus acidophilus, has only a hop skip and a jump to get into the thick of things so to speak.

Besides which, by applying the yogurt directly to the vaginal yeast infection, relief from the burning and itching sensations are almost immediate, and that’s definitely worth the fuss and the mess with the yogurt.

After applying the yogurt, which can be done in a number of ways, you should then look into setting your body back on track by aiding and abetting it in the guise of dietary changes.

Since a vaginal yeast infection, will thrive on such foods containing sugars and sweeteners you should really stay away from these, along with foods containing carbohydrates, yeasty foods, and fermented foods.

You should also try and stay away from such things as red meats and alcohols. And along with what you shouldn’t eat for a vaginal yeast infection, there are also foods which you should eat, and these include whole grains, brown rice, plenty of vegetables, unsweetened yogurt, and garlic to name but a few.

Vaginal yeast infection, or candidiasis, is caused by an overgrowth of the fungus Candida albicans. Candida are organisms normally found in the vagina in small numbers..Yeast infections are caused by an overgrowth of yeast that are often present in low numbers in the vagina. Pregnancy, antibiotics, and frequent exposure to semen over a short period of time can all lead to an overgrowth.

My doctor told me that there is no specific cause. It is just the result of an imbalance.

There are several ways that can cause a yeast infection:

1) any hormonal changes (i.e. BC pills)
2) staying a wet bathing suit too long
3) improper diet
4) staying in sweaty clothes after a work out too long (that is how I got one)
5) tight pants
6) underwear that don’t breath (i.e. polyester)

That is only a few that I can think of right now.

A yeast infection is the result of an over growth of the yeast that occur naturally in your body.

There are many things that can cause these infections such as: hormonal changes near the start of your period, or taking anti-biotics. Diet can also play a role in these infections sometimes, and many women have to stop eating sugar and carbohydrates to reduce the occurance of yeast infections.

Treatments include: perscriptions like Diflucan, over the counter treatments such as Monistat and Vagisil. You can also help reduce yeast infection by eating yogurt or acidobactilus supplements.

You don’t get yeast, you have yeast. Even
when you are fully healthy and free of
symptoms, yeast fungi (Candida albicans)
are often present in the vagina. Normally,
the immune system and the acidic vaginal
environment (pH 4) hold them in check,
and they remain completely unnoticed.
Only when the pH balance of the vaginal
mucous membrane is disturbed are the
conditions favorable for yeast to multiply
unchecked. An infection occurs with all of
its unwelcome symptoms.

Several things can make life harder for yeast infections:
Do not wear underwear made of synthetic fibers, because
they create a warm stagnant environment where yeast
prospers.
Perfumed soaps and bath additives can attack the protective
acid mantle of the skin which then becomes more susceptible
to yeast infections. Sprays and deodorized panty liners and
sanitary pads should also be avoided for the same reason.
In most cases, it is not too little but too much hygiene that is
responsible for a yeast infection, because frequent washing and
bathing disturbs the natural defensive mechanisms in the skin.
After using the toilet, you should wipe backwards from the vagina
towards the anus, so that you do not transfer any intestinal
pathogens to the vagina.
Eat health-consciously and avoid too many carbohydrates, e.g.
in the form of sugar, chocolate, or cake, since yeast fungi like
it sweet.

Yeast infection usually is cause by over population of Candida Albicans in the vagina, rectum, and mouth. While it is known to be a women health issue, men also can contract a yeast infection, if they have unprotected sexual activity with a partner who has a yeast infection (NOTE: Yeast infection IS NOT a STD).

A yeast infection will not cause the women to miss her period. Actually the period should clear up any mild yeast infection, since fungal causing the infection (Candida Albicans) don’t like the PH created by menstrual bleeding.

Factors that may contribute to development of yeast infection are as follow:
•Antibiotic treatments (it is recommended while taking antibiotic to eat plain yogurt having “active Yeast” as one of its ingredients)
•Oral contraceptives
•Hot weather or non-ventilating clothing, which increase moisture and warmth, fostering fungal growth
•Repeated intercourse over a short period of time
•Stress
•Suppressed immune system (including HIV)
•High carbohydrate intake, especially refined sugars and alcohol
•Pregnancy
•Diabetes
•In cases, it has been observed that certain types of soaps, powders, new detergents, certain type of condoms, latex, and other products which cause irritation.
While there are many over counter medication to treat Yeast Infection, it is always advised to see a physician to ensure the symptoms are only yeast infection and nothing else. Note that there are other health problems, including a few STDs which have similar symptoms, thus they should be ruled out ASAP.

Is a yeast infection dangerous?
While yeast infections can cause severe discomfort and rarely cause serious health problems, recurring yeast infections may be difficult to prevent or cure, due to other underlying problems.
